Atlantis
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009The Space Shuttle Atlantis blasted off, yesterday, on a mission to the International Space Station, crammed full of spare parts and supplies. Nearly 16 tons worth. It is one of the biggest payloads the shuttle has ever carried. This is the 129th launch of a shuttle into space since the program began in 1981 and after this one, there will only be 5 more shuttle missions. The fleet is to be retired after that. We will be hitching rides with the Russians in their Soyuz spacecraft until 2020 when our new Orion spaceship will be ready. That is, unless the administration decides to extend the shuttle program beyond it’s deadline. Seeing how much trouble and how dangerous these machines have become, it may be doubtful that their lifespan will be extended. This is the 31st time Atlantis has been launched, and since there are only two left out of the original four shuttles, the wear is taking its toll. You may have noticed from my older posts that I really am in love with these flying machines and pray they can successfully complete their remaining missions and be retired with dignity and gratitude.
Blast Off
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009With one or all of the following.
